The following letter was sent to gyms/coaches accross Canada. Apparently there are close to 100 athletes already registered.

Dear Athletes, Coaches and Gyms:
Re: CMTC-A Tournament and Team Canada Trials
The sport of Muay Thai is one of the fastest growing sports in Canada as well as across the world and the Canadian Muay Thai Council – Amateur “CMTC-A” is growing and developing along with it.
As a result of the growth of Muay Thai and the increased presence of the sport throughout Canada, the CMTC-A believes that September would be an ideal time to host a national Muay
Thai tournament to compete against fellow countrymen, determine national rankings, and earn an opportunity to represent Team Canada at the upcoming world championships November 27 – December 5, 2009 in Bangkok, Thailand.
The details of the tournament are as follows:
Date: September 11th - 13th, 2009
Location: Calgary, Alberta
Venue: Silver Dollar Casino
Format:
Medical Requirements: all athletes will be required to provide the following medical results:

Please express you interest in this event by return email no later than July 10th,2009. CMTC-A membership forms and an event registration will be forwarded upon request.
The tournament also presents an opportunity for officials (judges and referees) to increase their experience on a national level. If you are interested in receiving a CMTC-A certification as an
official, participate as an official or gain more experience please express your interest by response email.

Format:
- Tournament style format – single elimination
- Athletes will be seeded based on current fight records
- A Division will compete for a spot on Team Canada (Experience – recommended that athletes have 10 or more fights for this division)
- B Division will compete for experience and rankings (Experience - athlete cannot have more than 10 fights)
- Depending on interest we may add a division for fighters with more than 10 fights who do NOT wish to compete for a spot on Team Canada
Medical Requirements: all athletes will be required to provide the following medical results:
- Negative results for: HIV, Hep B, Hep C
- ECG (Electrocardiogram)
- Exam results cannot be older than 1 year on event day and are required no later than Aug 20 th , 2009
- Exam costs are the responsibility of competing athletes
Athlete Requirements:
- Must be current 2009 CMTC-A members ($50 annual membership)
- Complete event registration ($50 event registration fee)
- Registration and membership deadlines
- First deadline July 15th, 2009 (FIRM)
- Second deadline August 10th, 2009 (FIRM) (late registration penalty of $100)
- Athlete MUST have amateur only status - NO PROFESSIONALS (Athletes cannot have participated in any combat sports as a professional in any country, including but not limited to MMA, Muay Thai, Boxing, Kickboxing)
Travel Arrangements
- All athletes and coaches are responsible for their own travel and accommodation costs
- Group booking rates will be secured at the event hotel
- Weigh ins will take place at 12PM on Friday, Sept 11th, 2009 at the event hotel
- Teams will be required to make themselves available to various media outlets as
required - Pre-fight medicals will take place immediately following the weigh in.
